Memories last forever...

I once read that the best way to ruin a memory is to remember it. It sounds like a lie, but if you think about it, there is a good chance to be true.

To be more specific, the mentioned article stated that if you try to remember a memory from the past you can't be 100% accurate about it. Suppose you are 30 years old and you're trying to remember your birthday party when you where 6. You can spot some family members, a birthday cake, friends, etc. But, you can't remember how many people where there, who were they, if a certain person was present...

As a result, you construct an inaccurate memory about that event and replace the original one in your mind. The next time you'll recall that moment, you will add a person, or something else. This happens without knowing, because you couldn't be certain, for example, if your uncle was there (who was not really present) or if the party took place in the living room. Imagine changing little things each time. The final memory would be nothing like the original one.

To conclude, the best way to preserve a memory is to try not to think about it!
